All too often nerves have been stepped on and unnecessary derogatory mud flinging contests occurred on this forum, regarding what a listening test "proves" (sic). Invariably the impression is that the practice of listening to music reproduced by audio equipment is poorly understood.

Just how poorly is admirably illustrated in an article by Ethan Winer, a "heavy" in audio circles for decades now. It is one of many articles on the subject over the years and a typical illustration of a few of the many more factors active in the listening experience. Perhaps this reference will help in abating the unnecessary tiffs between folks sometimes ill-informed ...Let us indeed hope so!

(This reference was given elsewhere on this forum but may have gone by unnoticed. In addition, Mr Winer's website can be visited for insight into a wealth of other topics. Together with Rod Elliot and Douglas Self, to mention just two, these sites form a few of my regular "abodes" for refreshing accuracy among the too many advocating rubbish.)
