Had a MacBook Pro since 2013. For the last few months, it has been sluggish and/or need a bit of nudging to wake up from sleep (closing the lid). I went through all the advice given by fundis and Apple forums alike. Some days it would spring to life when you open the lid, other times it needed 2 or 3 pushes on the power button. I reset the SMC and also the NVRAM to no avail. The power settings are set to never sleep
About a month ago it would just not wake up. So I took it along to Digicape for some advice. Their advice, given after 15 mins was that they would replace the logic board for R 13300,00
Not wanting to take such drastic a step, I took it to Laptopfix in Old Stanhope Road. He undid the base cover, disconnected the battery lead, waited 2 mins and put it back. The computer woke up immediately. They were not going to charge since I push a lot of work their way, but gave the fellow R 500 for his trouble. In and out the shop in 20 mins
So I called this fellow at Digicape. His initial response was that I was talking rubbish, it cannot happen like that, he said. He then admitted that the battery story can often fix a sleep problem, but this practice is frowned upon by Apple since it does not generate "faith" in Apple products. Maybe faith is a euphemism for more repair fees. Looking on several Apple forums, removing the battery is a recommended fix and many readers confirm that it works, and the machine continues to behave thereafter
