All design is somehow connected stylistically, and pursuant to some net pics I posted in Hi Phibian's thread on value vs cost in Hi Fi, good design and well built/ manufactured goods have a much longer life than faddish design and shoddy goods.
These are some classic 50's and 60's designed (some earlier) and built chairs that have been granted a new life with minimal renovation. Why chairs? Like sports cars and coupe models for cars, chairs are iconic designer signature items; both the expensive limited editions as well as these more humble consumer items for the mass market. Great designs by Porche can be a kettle or a car!
My sister has the decorator's eye and helped pick these out for me. The 2nd last one, so called "Cantilever Chair" was designed by Dutch architect Mart Stam in1926 and is still manufactured today - mine was made in the 60's. The orange composite and metal jobbie was designed by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen in 1955; his Series 7 chair or "eiffell chair", and is also still in production in various colours and forms - mine was made in Germany in early 60's.
The first two are typical 50's and 60's modern probably by Parker Knoll.
Wood of chair 1 still needs refinishing or oiling.
And a good chair is essential for enjoying audio/ video of course!!
Please post your pics of well designed and built items, hi fi and others.
Camera used was the amazing little well designed Canon S90!
