Hi ladies and gents.
Please tell me your opinion as I have no way to test my idea.
I now have this awesome monoblock 300B's and it does have a gain control as well.
I have two challenges going on my head.
1 ] there is only a single set of RCA inputs , which means I constantly have to plug unplug between sources.
I have the Linn Intek pre still , but with this gear it does really make a huge very noticeable difference in overall sound to me if I use the Linn in between sources... Honestly I prefer everything so far directly into the mono's.
So what will it cost or how difficult will it be to make multiple RCA inputs to the Mono's without affecting / interfering with any of the quality in the chain. I.E. I am thinking maybe just to solder multiple sets if RCA's to the existing RCA's. I will obviously only use one source at a time anyways.
2] Would like to pass the Linn Intek on as my brother is after it,, but this little help has been such a help over the years as it is an integrated with a pre out to power, has a decent MC , MM phono stage and two tape loops.. Etc....
It is also very underrated due to some reviews , which I could never understand really... I mean it's by far not the best amp in the world , but you willhave to try quite a bit to beat it and some people like me prefer it's laid back sound...
Anyway , here is another reason now to keep the linn ... I have bought a digital recording device ( Citrix or something like that ) and as far as I know I will have to use the tape loop to record from other sources to the laptop. I am going to get out my old nakamichi deck for some casettes I have and obviously there will be a lot if digital recording done from my vinyls going forward for ease of digital general listening , car listening etc..
So the question is really if one could direct this to the laptop without a tape out loop( I.e don't need a preamp).
I suppose I can go test it anyway , but then I would have no gain from the input source as per my thinking , or does that not make a diff when recording.
Alternatively , how easy will it be to out a decent tape loop into the monoblocks without interfering too much with the signal.
3) if I get the ferrograph reel to reel working and start recording , would I also need a preamp or can I just use source directly to RTR.
I suppose final alternative is to get a decent very neutral to the 300b sound preamp ( maybe valve as well) and replace the linn. I just want to move away from long complicated signal path's and reduce the amount of transistors and caps to as little as possible in between source and speaker( Hense my move towards minimalist open baffle crossoverless speakers).
Tx in advance again.
KJS.
