So I'm getting ready to rent out my townhouse and need to do some minor tweaks here and there. This weekend I discovered a leak on the upstairs toilet, where the toilet connects to the sewage pipe. Decide that even I can do this, go off and buy the wax sealant, read the instructions on the back and it really seems an easy process. Except when I got down on floor and saw the 3 or so McGuyver jobs done by previous owner/s. A mix of silicone sealant and what looks like old putty (no, BWS, not that kind of putty). Instructions say that EVERYTHING must be removed before adding the wax. I've removed 90% of the silicone sealant that was there with much swearing, but there is no ways in hell I can see how to get it sparkling clean unless I use a flamthrower on it, and then there is still the original rubber seal there - I don't have to remove that as well, do I?
