Seeing as I am off to China on Monday I decided to go find myself a reasonable set of headphones.  I wanted something lightweight and smallish, but of a good quality.

In the past I used to travel with a pair of Sony MDR-EX71 in-ear headphones, and they sound pretty good for what they are. Only issue is that my ears get very irritated and tired after an hour or two of having these things stuck in.

For this reason I wanted an on-ear as the over ear types are too big for traveling.

At home I use a pair of AKG K702 phones for reference when voicing speakers. When I listen to a new set of speakers and I hear something new, unexpected, or otherwise unknown I look to my AKGs to give me a second opinion on the matter. For that they work very well - extremely revealing and clean sounding. That being said, I am no headphone guy. If given a choice, I listen to my hifi 100 times out of a 100.

Anyway, after some looking around I finally decided to buy a pair of AKG (who would have guessed) K451 phones for traveling. Good build quality, small size on ear phones. Even better is that they are foldable and can be stored in a surprisingly small case which is included. They are made to be driven off portable music players and phones, so they are easy to drive and don't need pre amps, etc to sing a bit.

Sitting now listening to them off my iPhone, and all I can say is that I am pleasantly surprised and very happy to have them. Very good buy for me indeed!

Whether they sound perfect with high resolution recordings, etc if can honestly not say. Like I said earlier, I am not a headphones type of a guy, so my knowledge regarding these things is a bit limited. To be fair I don't really care - they suit my need perfectly. Highly recommended for someone looking for a small, light weight on-ear, easy to drive headphone.

Kind Regards,
Ian.
