Hi there

I am completely new to the sound world. I bought a new flat screen TV and the sound sucks. I got referred to this forum by Carel1966, and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the info :/ I need some advice that's relevant to SA, as I found plenty of stuff overseas but can;t get it here without paying twice the price? My budget was around R10k and was hoping to nab stuff second hand, but I might have to stretch it a bit..

I live in a flat, so I cannot have massive sound that will piss off the neighbours. The lounge is about 7x6m roughly.

I would like to play music, in addition. And bluetooth would be nice. Amp would need a DAC built in with optical input for TV I think?

So I've been wooed on the path of a small integrated amp and bookshelf speakers. I think this will be sufficient for my needs, at least I hope so. We do not need massive volume...

I've seen these amps which may do:
NAD D 3020
Denon PMA-50

Speakers:
Wharfedale Diamond 220
Dali Zensor 1
Q Acoustics 3020
B&W 685? Seems a bit big?

I really do like the write-ups on the Denon amp, but getting them locally seems tough. I don;t know what is a good match for either amp or speakers, and I don't know of alternatives? I know this may be 'small' for a 'home theatre', but it is surely enough for my needs. Also I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives which cost more and more, I really don't want to slip down the rabbit hole, nor do I think I'll notice the difference between audiophile quality and just good enough sound...

So I just need some local advice, please help if you can :) sorry for long post..

Cheers
Z
