I read a discussion on what serves as a good support for turntables and just cannot find it again. I do however remember that the person spoke about thew nornal chipboard on a light ,metal frame (square tubing) - a little table much like the "Linn" table dealers used to sell. Its the support material I am unclear on, the place where the turntable actually sits on.
He used granite, marble, would (chip) and eventually settled on slate - the explanation was related to energy absorption and dissipation and slate apparently did this best and gave the best bass response in particular. Any ideas on this: I find the Linn table fine for the LP12 but not sure about the slate for other TT's especially linear tracker withour suspension (currently sitting on 1" granite as it needs a heavy base according to reviewers. Does the "support" material make a real difference or are there too many other variables in this equation?
