Upgrading a TT.

Are there a formula/guideline about how much to spend on tt vs tonearm vs cartridge?
I have a modified Planar 3 with RB 300 and Goldring 1022gx(i think).
Question is, what is the weak spot in this setup and is it worthwhile to change anything? or should I take a jump to LP12 or similar to get a decent upgrade?
