Upgrading Quad 34 and 306?

Hi techhies,

I see there are various companies offering upgrades to the Quad 34 Control Unit and 306 Power Amps in the USA and UK. UK mods seem expensive, the USA less so. There are DIY kits available as well.

What are the sonic symptoms of tired caps on older amps and pre-amps? What realistic improvements in sound should one expect with these upgrades? Anyone with any experience in this field?
