I'm noticing sales of lots of used 1st-generation panel TV's and rear-projection TV's. Some want to charge almost the price of a new latest-spec panel TV...
I would buy a panel TV now (though I'm not feeling compelled to), as I think that the technology is reasonably matured. Knowing what performance levels are currently available, I don't think I could live those early sets. Sticking to my 72cm crt for now...
