The Vaal river has been very low these past few months as a result of the drought. Over the past couple of days however the water level stabilised somewhat and was nearly at its normal level. But this afternoon the river level rose significantly and the river is flowing extremely fast. Earlier today water levels were about 1.2 metres higher that they have been but the rate of flow was sufficiently strong to break one of the mooring points of my jetty. Fortunately, the other one held and the jetty was fastened and chained securely so hopefully it will remain just where it is until we can repair it safely.

Subsequent to when the photo was taken at around lunch time, the river level has risen about another metre and is now less than one metre below the sun deck, which is just on the river bank just behind the jetty and normally about 2.5m higher than the average water level. Should the river rise much further, the sun deck will (once again!!) be under water.
