Valve pre amp project

I want to try and build a simple valve pre-amplifier. I have never done anything with valves before so I thought it might be an interesting project.

I need some advise on what to build though. Had a look on the internet and read through some basic valve theory. This DIY project caught my eye: http://diyaudioprojects.com/Tubes/Universal-Tube-Preamplifier/

I just want to know what your opinions would be on this circuit and if it would be a worthwhile build? I also have no idea on which valves are commonly available and where to get them.
