A video of the Soul Brother Pete Rock and his vinyl collection. +50,000 vinyls in his house and 40,000 at his parents' place. Back in the late 80s and most of the 90s the biggest purveyors of vinyl were hip-hop producers and DJ. Through the need to sample, they pretty much sustained the vinyl industry after CD became the main medium to buy music!!! Not all hip-hop MC's were vinyl destructors by means of the scratching technique. A lot bought vinyl's for sampling - legally or not. Listen to albums by the likes of Pete Rock and CL Smooth, The Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Premier, Dilated Peoples, Dr Dre, DJ Jazzy Jeff etc and notice how many of their beats are based on 70s funk, soul and rock. And it amazes me how hip-hop is put down by a lot of so called audiophiles!
