I have a vodacom contract. I get "free minutes and data". I hardly deplete my airtime but I do use quite a bit of data. When I run out of data I recharge in order not to pay out of bundle rates. When data bundles are running out you get an sms warning you and reminding you to recharge. So in February I got a warning on the 14th so I recharged with a gig. On the 22nd the same thing happened again an I recharged. This morning which is a new month I checked my balance and I had 1.99GB than my new month allocation. This was strange since I only recharged with a gig on the 22nd.
I called vodacom to get clarity and they said it's because I had carried over data from and it'll expire on the 3rd. I found this very strange since on 2 occasions this month I was warned that my data bundles were almost depleted and I bought new bundles. I said to them that this is unscrupulous as that warning reminds me to buy new data or I'll incur out of bundle rates. It doesn't tell me that I still have data bundles from previous month. Vodacom's response was that that warning was for the active bundle and not that which I carried over. They say I need to my account on the Internet. I have bought 2 gb extra because of that warning while I had data to my account.
What makes this worse is that they say data and airtime consumption starts from the latest and only when that is depleted then I'll only have access to my accumulated data and airtime. Since I bought new data it means that I would not get to the accumulated data and then I would forfeit it after a certain period. The other thing i don't understand is why airtime and data that one paid for expires. Why is ICASS and consumer bodies not protecting a from these hyenas?
