I am currently using a very well sounded Technics SU-V7 that are 80 watt rated in a set of 94db 12" Fostex`s and that means under normal listening conditions I turn the volume only a few steps then its load, halfway on the pot it is super super load and that is from DAC or CDP so I only use a 1/3 of the pot.
Problem one is the pot does not track well on low volumes and amp is super sensitive in gain.
Problem 2 is the pot is 250K in value and finding a Alps Blue a struggle.
So my plan is due to very high value and also carbon for a series resistor, can I use say a 100k pot with a 1% 150k metal film series resistor to make up the 250K and will this reduce some of the series resistor noise or must I just go for a DIY resistor step volume control and use much better series resistors ?
