Claremont and Wynberg SAPS has a very long history of not turning up if there's a crime problem at home - at least 10 years of it. In my case, it is a peculiar problem to do with borders - my house has a Kenilworth address and Claremont SAPS is supposed to be 'our' reporting station. My neighbour directly across the road also lives in Kenilworth but his reporting station is Wynberg SAPS.

Wynberg SAPS is so close to me I can easily walk there in 5mins.  Claremont SAPS is miles away from here - at least 5km away.

Whenever there's a problem here, Claremont and Wynberg argue among themselves who should attend here. In most cases, no-one turns up :(

Anyway, this is not the reason for this rant.

On the 3rd of July, a bloke parked his car in Newlands as he wanted to go for a walk in Newlands Forest.

Before he could get out of his car, there were two friendly Transkeian types at each door of his Honda Ballade, hammering on the windows to open up. As he was in the process of doing so, they grabbed him and dragged him out of his car. They took his phone, keys and the car. And gave him whack across the head requiring stitches for good measure.

All this happened within 10m away from an ADT patrolman's wendy house which was manned.

Passers-by helped him and someone called Claremont SAPS. This lot took over 40 minutes to turn up.

The excuse? The station's security gate wouldn't open as it had been non-functional for days or weeks apparently. This is the same useless lot that is guarded at their station by Chubb Security when I last looked.
