In the UK, my son in law spotted his stolen bicycle on Gumtree the day following its theft (the seller posted a photo of the bike in the ad). The police were so slow, it took them 10 days to get into gear. He arranged to meet them at the house, they did not turn up as the officer was "off shift". The following day they went into the advertisers house. It was chock a block full of stolen bikes and parts. He easily identified the bike due to the iridescent green colour, the specialised tyres and the saddle and had pictures of himself riding it. The police confiscated the lot The advertiser was arrested but let out on his own recognisances (no bail) and disappeared. He never got his bike back. He could see it in the evidence locker, which is huge warehouse outside London, but was told it was needed for the impending court case which never took place as the suspect had done a duck and gone back to Eastern Europe He wrote a letter to the Independant Pollce Commissioner and received a generic reply, nothing else. This occured in 2012 and nothing has progressed since then. He now lives back in Cape Town. There is a claim pending with the Norwich Union Ins co. They are "awaiting advices" from the UK Police
