Hi all

I've seen a large number of adverts stating that xyz component has been or needs a service. For items that incur physical wear and tear, I can fully understand why a service would be required. However, for items such as power amps, receivers etc, they are either working or not working? Old capacitors etc go beyond their tolerances after many many years only typically, and even then, is the change in quality not negligible?  Analogous perhaps to what is referred to as running in? Ironically I never see LCD displays or laptops serviced...

So. To my point. Is "serviced" another term for fixed? If someone could advise what a service included for a recent model component, that may help perhaps?

Quite clearly I'm more a "Don't fix it broken." type of person...
