I’m of the opinion that a major portion of so-called audiophiles and owners of commercial HiFi gear have never heard a proper soundstage with decent imaging, layering, etc. Sure, almost everyone say they hear the “soundstage” and that their stereo audio systems have it. But I really doubt it.
After having listened to stereo systems at multiple “HiFi” shops and “HiFi” trade shows, I still have to hear a decent soundstage on commercial gear. And there is nothing wrong with my ears and the way my brain interfaces with my ears, because I can very well hear a good soundstage when there is one. I just never came across it with commercial gear.
