Mine is easy - I visited Absolute Sound in Sandton, their first shop. It was a turntable that I didn't recognise, with a Nakamichi pre/power amp combo, and a pair of Maggies.
It sounded ... unbelievable. I have never heard anything before or since that would match it. To a young teenager in the mid 1980s, this was the entrance into a world of high end audio. As irritated as Heinz was at giving this obvious time waster a demo, it was the entrance into a world of high end audio that would see me spending lots of money with him and other assorted peddlers over the years.
The same man cannot cross the same bridge twice. I will thus never experience anything that sounds quite that good.
