What is the best "Kreepy Krawly"?

Mine gave up the ghost (was a Barracuda) and I need to get a new one. They last pretty long, are not cheap and my old one used to get stuck near the stairs-I've got an 8 shaped pool and have tried various fixes.

Any advice?
