What is the point of DACs with 768kHz PCM capability?

Would it not be cost effective to just make 192kHz pcm-capable equipment and put the rest of the money where elsewhere in the chain?  Can you even buy 768kHz tracks?  Does anyone upsamples to 768kHz and saves in their library, what' the file size?
