Listening to "audiophiles" its seems that the consensus is that bass should be fast, lean, etc, etc and that you should bypass the tone controls.
That is all very well and good and you get used to that after a while, accepting that its the way its intended to sound.
BUT, go to a live performance and the complete opposite is true! The lower frequencies are a lot more pronounced than what is considered to be the audio Nirvana. I had the "priviledge" to attend two concerts in the past two weeks - Enrique Iglesias and Freshlyground at the Grand Arena Grandwest and based on that I think what we consider to be "closest to the real thing" is in fact a figment of our imaginations.
By the way I even enjoy the Enrique concert althou I am not really a fan, but Freshlyground was excellent
