I thought I would start this topic because it's something that's been on my mind for a while. Here's the scenario:
You are looking to get a new amp/speakers/cabling etc, basically anything that can be heard ie not displays.
So u head on over to your nearest AV store to audition. The salesman listens to your requests and then takes you over to a listening room to audition say, uhmmm a AV receiver. Ten minutes later you walk out the room blown away by the amount of fx that whIzzed past you, the bombastic bass, the clarity of the dialogue etc and you buy the amp that's costs 35k. U come home, set it up and connect your floorstanders which aren't the same as those the demo was done on and are far from blown away. U go onto forums searching for answers, you google, you call the store etc, but to no avail.
The point here is : how should an audition really work? Is it fair that properly damped listening rooms with near perfectly placed speakers running high end cabling be used to coax you into buying a piece of kit?
How does one choose something that's suitable for their own listening environment.
How should a store manage this sort of query from a client?
I would love to hear what you guys have to say about this
