I have noticed several methods:

1) Idler wheel
2) Direct drive
3) belt drive - multiple motors and strings etc
4) "rim" drive - cersion of idler ?
5) magnetic drive

Each has its benefits, but what would be the best ? And why ?

surely some experts on this forum can explain ?

NO FIGHTS ?  :angrywife:

Here is my opinion, and its a novice one at best.

Idler - directly running on wheel via belt - slight noise from wheel/platter interaction ?
Direct drive - motor bearings come into play ? Motor poles important, torque and power (220V) translates into noise ?
Belt - no mechanical link - well almost. But speed a problem here ? torque not transferred ?
Magnetig - speed maybe ? Other interference because of fields ?
Rim - same as idler wheel ?
