Radio used to play a massive role in our society, from the bygone years of listening to radio drama's/soapies on Springbok Radio, the LM radio years, the good ol' 702 music station where radio personalities such as John Berks, Alex Jay, Mike Mills, Stan Katz and Darren Scott (who later almost single-handedly revived Jacaranda into a very competitive and prominent radio station) started or ended their careers, 5FM, through to today. It should surely still be relevant today, especially for the thousands of commuters driving in their cars to work and back every day. Has the modern trend of playing one's own selection of music on an iPod and/or Internet radio made such a significant impact on the radio industry that it warrants his comment? I know I prefer listening to my own music simply because of the poor audio quality of radio, while I reckon that the quality of radio entertainment per se (knowledgeable & witty DJ's, a good radio format plus great music) has deteriorated quite a bit over recent years (or I am getting too old for it).

What do you guys think about the future of radio?
