I thought I would start this thread because in a very short space of time on this forum I have seen members setups ranging from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands.
My question is this: When is enough enough? I mean there are members with 4 power amps, separate DAC's, tri-wiring, bi-amping etc etc. Now I am not saying that my setup is anywhere near perfect but to me what I have sounds pretty decent. And it's not like I haven't been around some amazing gear before. I have heard some absolutely incredible setups but these were in proper recording studios like Abbey Road and SONY NYC which were specifically designed for the pro-audio environment with almost perfect acoustics.

In our homes and listening areas we only but try to recreate the acoustics of these great studios and movie theatres but most don't even have the luxury of building a listening room and make do with lounge area setups (as I do).
So how different do the setups actually sound in real world terms.
Yes 4 power amps will give greater control and power but is that massive financial outlay justified in relation to the sonic difference between a guy that has just one really good amp.
Will a bi-amped setup that cost 100k justify itself over a single amp setup that cost just half that?

All in all what I am trying to figure out is: Does spending say, 300k compared to 50k mean you are getting 250k worth of extra sonic brilliance.
IMO I don't see this making sense. Yes you do get an improvement, no doubt about it, but definitely not enough to justify this outlay.

Once again this is my humble opinion based on years as sound engineer and post production supervisor.
Please accept my humble apologies if I may have accidentally offended anyone with a high value setup. This was not my intention and I am not targeting anyone at all.
