I have a 3.0 setup for movies ?matched Monitor Audio floorstanders and center speaker). And I much prefer it to 2.0. I dont think you'll go wrong with 3.0, provided that the source is multichannel encoded. I'm not a huge fan of the Neo & ProLogic upmixing which my old AVR can do (maybe I will be when one day I upgrade to something with newer upmixong technologies).
