I have to do some repair work on my car boot. Car was good when I bought it about 5 years ago then after about 6 months the real truth came out. Car was built up. Vrot engine wiring harness etc etc. I have to tackle this myself as no funds are available. Anyway, I've been dealing with it as the years go by. The hose took the paint off the boot last week exposing the rust which I had been aware of the last year or so but was too terrified to investigate further :) Now I have to do it ! The car stands outside, no garage. I have bought resin and fiber glass matting and some paper cups. I plan on using a small grinder to open up and remove every vestige of rust followed by a wire brush in a hand drill.

Then I plan on dabbing the resin onto the clean, exposed metal, cutting some cloth to match and dabbing on more resin while trying to keep everything relatively flat. Let it cure. Then repeat the exercise until the depression ( can only see that on the right side once the lining is removed ... but it's been banged in about
5mm ) is leveled out. I'll sand it down with a straight edge using the good part of the boot as a guide, then follow up with body filler for the finer details with some real fine water paper. Then I'll flat the remainder, prime and respray the whole thing. Am I on track with my assumptions / plan of attack
PS If anyone has a second hand 1994 Mercedes exhaust manifold they want to sell .....? Mine blew yesterday. No scrap yards in George / Mossel Bay have anything but I've sent off an email to Mecca-Plan In Cape Town in the mean time.
