We watched a movie and thankfully, there were no problems. After the movie I tried the coax audio again and it is now working. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

I stay in Durban. I can now add that I unplugged the power cord then re-connected it after a few minutes. Result: signal back. Today it is still working. Just the coax audio input now not working. I will try a 3D movie on my hard drive connected to blu-ray via USB later today. Holding thumbs.

OK. I switched the receiver on, then selected the SAT/CATV button. The DSTV audio came through the system's speakers and "dolby digital" was displayed on the receiver's display panel. Is this the answer you require?

Are you referring to the input display on the amp menu? If so, I have just checked and it indicates "auto". Checking a second time it is now greyed out.

Thanks jvr, I've already assigned the SAT/CATV button to coax. It was the first thing I did after the relief of viewing the GUI menu on TV and projector.

I sprayed switch cleaning lubricant on the sliding mechanism but this did not help. I guess I'll tell the lady owner to buy a new player. The problem could be that she did not use it often.

It's a stand alone Sinotec, part of a HI Fi system. There are no belts. Everything looks brand new inside just like the exterior. No signs of corrosion.
