    Audio Technica ATH-M40x

That's the cheapest I can find them locally :groovy: Scratch that, it's excluding VAT, so the inclusive price is a little higher. Soundselect have the best price.

    What headphones?

After 2 weeks of intensive online reading, I'm leaning towards the ATH-M40x set, since the HD439's are reportedly not reaching the same lows as my HD212's do. The HD380 Pro's are reportedly uncomfortable and the HD518's come with a 6mm plug, so you have to use the 3.5mm adapter, making the...

    Audio Technica ATH-M40x

Does anyone know who might have a pair of the ATH-M40x's in stock, please?

    What headphones?

Has the OP pulled the trigger then? I've been eyeing the HD439's for a while, so I'm curious, although I've been itching to look at something with that compares to my old HD212's on the low end whilst offering a bit more soundstage (subjective, but hey).

    Sennheiser goes WTF

Ermmm... Sennheiser  :nfi: I love the brand, but it seems as if there are some "very creative" minds at work.

    Do I need a DAC?

/hoping I may threadjack/necro safely... I have a PC with a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic piping audio into a 4-yr old pair of Sennheiser HD212's. This is used for playing FLAC audio and 256k/320k MP3's. I've begun noticing a soft hiss in the last while during quiet sections. The 'phones have also...

    Media players...

Having used an HTPC running Openelec for almost 2 years, I recently got an android TV Box and I'm quite happy: http://www.avsupply.co.za/product_info.php/droidtv-mxiii-2gb-media-player-with-android-and-xbmc-p-686 It sits quietly in its corner playing whatever I want to stream via DLNA, or...

    DLNA software!

I'm running Serviio on 2 Win 8.1 PC's, streaming to an Android TV Box (Minix X8-H), with very few issues. I find that the FF/Rew performance is dependant on the content. For 90% of the media, it infrequently buffers, and then carries on fine. I have not had any reason to change to something like...

    Media Player

FWIW, I built a uITX HTPC 2 years ago and installed Openelec on a 4Gb flash-drive, with media stored on an internal HDD or streamed over Wifi from Windows PC. This worked quite well, most of the time. The only thing which irked me, was the hassles to configure things like Wifi and audio output...

Will this mess up my speakers/avr?? Felix Laband- Donkey Rattle

Awesome tune, from an awesome CD by an awesome local outfit! Donkey Rattle does tend to give the sub a bit of a workout IMO, so it would just be wise to start by playing at a reasonable level at first

    Speakers for a Marantz NR1501 (50W)

That's awesome! Do you reckon a sub is necessary at all, or do the 10.6's handle the rumblings from movies well enough? I did find that adding a good center speaker made a huge improvement for dialogue though.

    Speakers for a Marantz NR1501 (50W)

I'm running the NR1402 with a pair of Diamond 10.2's, the 10CS center and an SW150, which treats my ears to lovely audio from our HTPC, Xbox360 and BDP. I do wish I'd gone for a pair of 10.6's instead, as I expect they'd be similar to my bookshelves + sub

    Pacific Rim Bass :-O

When we saw this at the cinema, my first thought was "wow, I wonder if Ster Kinekor's techies were nervous for their subs, when they tested this puppy"

    Removing heat & Cable Management

The back of our cabinet also looked like the OP's, which drove me batty. We have 4 shelves arranged in 2 pairs, each having a cabling hole at the back. I needed to neaten up the HDMI and power cables running from 3 media devices into the AVR and connecting the TV. So I bought 2 60cm braided...

Zeus paid me a visit today...

 Jayzusss, Pete! this story just raises my hatred of insurers a few notches. We're giving them basically free money to cover us against eventualities. We pay hectic monthly premiums, then have to pay in an excess and still they find ways to turn down or reduce the claim. :baseball...

    I'm an addict

I'm an addict too. Without ready access to a wide arrary of musical influences, I'd probably become violent.  Goofy

    High Fidelity Appreciation

IMO, more of the sitting on the couch and just listening to music, or watching movies. After upgrading to a dedicated AVR + 3.1 speakers, I'm enjoying media twice as much as I did before.

    Hi-Fi in the Movies

In "Looper", with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Whillis, Joe has a smart-looking TT, which it turns out, has its own website! http://www.loopermovieturntable.com/ :BWAHAHAH:

    Anti vibration feet for speakers

I've been wondering about the same thing, after using 4 of those to raise an overheating component. I'd probably use something like Prestik to keep the stoppers in place
