This afternoon I got an SMS from my alarm system that the power was out. I got hold of a neighbour and ascertained that everyone else's power was on...just mine was out. Get home and reset the earth leakage...it trips. I managed to isolate the breaker to one of the lighting circuits.

For good measure, I tested all appliances; isolated the pool DB, lapa, stove, gate motor, etc. Issue persisted.

So I leave the one light circuit off and start firing up all the appliances again. Front part of the house - lounge, kitchen, laundry - no lights but it's not too bad a situation. I get to the main bedroom and turn on the AV Receiver...goes on like a Christmas tree...every possible light and symbol comes on. Lasts 3 seconds and the receiver shuts down. WTF. Then I notice the HD PVR is dead. I can hear the fan and it's hot to the touch but no life out of it. Unplug it and test it at the neighbour's using their power pack...fan runs, network port lights up, logic board inside shines red - but no LCD.

I've yet to disconnect the whole system and pull out the receiver to check the fuse.

All this said, the APC surge protector seems okay and the fault light isn't on. Tested another strip plug - same story.

Any theories?
