    Good/bad experience with hifi salesmen

My experience of buying from specialist Hifi shops in Pretoria have always surpassed expectation. Namely Audiophile(now closed), HiFi Installation, The Audio Zone and most recent for my HT, Sound & Image.  The "nonspecialist"/franchise/chain HiFi shops have always been to my...

Valve pre-amp and SS power amp

Played around with the parametric equ. on Jriver and the filters on the DAC and I am confident this is the answer without spending money. I am also busy making the filter GECO suggested. Maybe  a combination of all three. I think this will take sometime and effort to find the right balance. I...

Valve pre-amp and SS power amp

Hi Rodney. I'm not sure how to set parametric Equalizer to your spec. I am using Jriver 20 Do you use the following            Filter: Adjust high frequencies (high-shelf filter)        Frequency = 3000 Hz       Bandwith(Q) = 1        Gain 1.5- 3  or should this be Minus (-) 1.5-3

Valve pre-amp and SS power amp

Thanks GECO. I have a friend working on this. I presume just connect in line to the tweeter.

Valve pre-amp and SS power amp

Thanks guys for all the input. When I first joined the forum I thought it very strange how often equipment was exchanged. Now I know why. Getting the right combination to suit your ear is not for sissies. It seems getting a valve pre amp will not be the magic bullet I was hoping for...

Valve pre-amp and SS power amp

My current stereo setup is a laptop(Jriver)/Nakamichi CDP > Cambridge Audio Dacmagic plus > Krell 300I > Monitor Audio Silver 10. I am generally happy with the sound but at times it sounds a bit bright, maybe due to the age of the recordings of my CD's (70's and 80's). iI have played around with...

    Your load shedding set up

An old Wharfedale portable CD player, Sennheiser 449 headphones and a bunch of classical CDs I have not listened too in years.

Advice needed for upgrading my entry level gear.

You can try www.theaudiozone.co.za in WaterKloof Pretoria for Castle speakers. Not too far from Rustenburg. Joe is really helpful.

Switch off and just enjoy the music.

If one is always searching for the "Holy Grail" then you will never be satisfied. As a famous wine making once said to me "The best wine is the one in your glass" My 1st car was crappy, and I did enjoy driving it as well as my 2nd, 3rd and so on. I drive a decent car now and I can not say I...

Switch off and just enjoy the music.

I guess that's the problem when you keep changing components, you are always listening to the equipment. That's just the way it is. These things will never change.    :giggle:

DAC/Preamp with simultaneous xlr and rca output

Not sure why you would want RCA inputs. But a Cambridge Dacmagic Plus has simultaneous XLR and RCA output. Costs about R7K. Can act as a preamp and a headphone amp.

    Joke for the day

Law & Order... On a visit to Lesotho, at the airport our President Zuma is met by that country's Minister of Harbours. All of a sudden our prez realizes that this is absurd, Lesotho has no harbours as it is landlocked. He is very puzzled and decides to find out what the story is. At the...
