    Preaching to the converted?

New vinyls sound average to poor compared to old vinyls. I don't bother myself anymore with Musica and Look&Listen vinyls; besides their selection is limited. On the other hand those 2nd's can sound great. Picked up some Sade, Elton John, Dave Brubeck, Natalie Cole, Phillip Bailey and other...

what do you listen for when listening to music

Absolutely! We have the Tivoli in the living room and it's a joy to use for casual listening when I'm with my wife. I prefer dedicated uninterrupted listening with the main rig to immerse myself in the lovely music.

Regaining the high ground in audio - You Tube video

Interesting! Only listened to the panel speakers. High-end will always have limited appeal - it's to do with the high prices. A Ferrari 458 will always sell to the moneyed few. And there's only 1 Ferrari brand and heritage. 1 McLaren, 1 Lamborghini, 1 Rolls, etc. Why are there countless high end...

Oh lord, here comes the B&W bashers and worshippers of the high sensitivity speaker altar! Each to their own. :BANDW: yes they are very good!!!

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

Hi BillyBawb. Only catching up with this thread now and reading through it, I almost got a fright thinking that I sold you a dud! Good to know the CM7 eventually delivered. Apologies that you had to audition them with the Musical Fidelity amp and DAC. I could have pulled out the Cambridge 540R...

Some local set-ups to die for!

Is that R2500/ month over 8 years?  :faint: Some offshore retailers offer financing terms; any local retailers that offer financing on AV gear? I'm curious to know - what are the T&C [rates, payment period, etc]? Can't imagine anyone being interested. How do they get rid of repo'd equipment...

    Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6

been toying with the idea of getting one for a while to replace my M1 DAC but just couldnt bring myself to do it. the stream magic sounds good but the app controller is very poor, which is supposed to be one of the top reasons to buy it. personally i think it will be downgrade. stick to your...

    B&W prices

Blame it on quantitive easing and the sell off of emerging currencies...it's not rocket science! The rand has plummeted nearly 32% since Jan-13. Interestingly the price of the new locally made Vivid Audio Giya speakers will depend on the exchange rate...! Go figure

http://www.blackouthiphop.com/crate-diggers-pete-rocks-vinyl-collection/ A video of the Soul Brother Pete Rock and his vinyl collection. +50,000 vinyls in his house and 40,000 at his parents' place. Back in the late 80s and most of the 90s the biggest purveyors of vinyl were hip-hop producers...

Network Player vs BluRay/DVD Player with Network

I have listened to the SM6 and the SBT under very different conditions and both sounded good. I also did a back to back of the SM6 with the Majik DS and the Majik DS sounded far better. Therefore I would expect a dedicated streamer to sound better than a similar priced network capable Bluray...

    AVSA Studios

oh i noticed that the Ikon standmount also have a dual tweeter arrangement but probably lower in quality than the dome in the epicon 2...interesting. i guess the number of speaker drives has no bearing impact on sound quality...guess i have answered my own question

    AVSA Studios

your personal view is in line with the reviews I have read to date. a while back i listened helicon 300 mk1 with the dual dome + ribbon tweeter and i enjoyed the sound (spatial midrange and deep bass) the epicon 8 also have a ribbon tweeter but dali opted for a dome tweeter for the epicon 2 to...
