I rip CD to FLAC using foobar to a 1TB hard drive and playback on the 751BD that feeds into M1DAC or directly into my MF amp - too many choices! The 751BD navigation is poor - you scroll through everything; i work around that by storing FLAC into genres on my hard drive; makes navigation easier...

Yep I'm another B&W speaker user. To sum it up they sound great when correctly partnered: my b&w cm7+musical fidelity a5.5 int. amp+musical fidelity m1 dac+cambridge audio 751bd combination simply sounds phenomenal. Sure there are greater speakers out there; try finding them and auditioning them...

Occassionaly i do grab a copy. Recently the edition with 50 greatest speakers...very insightful. Pity some of the brands reviewed cant be bought locally i.e. PMC, Kudos, Neat.

My main gripe with digital...makes me appreciate stereo even more!

Hifi has been dead in this country for a long time! We are being feed plasticky HTIB by the major electronics retailers. Unfortunately people seems to like their 5.1/ 7.2 HTIB with bass boost, dynamic loud buttons and neon lights. You can still get great sound from a 2.1 system and lets face it...

that audiolab cdp gets rave reviews. an oppo type bdp outshines many budget cdp costing <R10k. ultimately its the quality of the dac inside the player.

...doing homework does help. a cambridge 751bd on what hifi is ?800. importing it will cost you R14,118 (at R12.9 fx rate plus 14% vat plus 20% ad valorem tax) - ex courier costs. you can get it locally for R10,700 but you can also get it for R13,990! fx rate plays a part but i agree the dealers...

i concur...the service is pathetic! they just dont hv interest in guys looking for av/ hifi gear; ditto in-shop auditions. they reckon they stock good items - just buy it and f-off. but what do u expect from a shop that retails flat panel tvs, cameras, home appliances, etc alongside av/ hifi...
