    AVSA Website Update

Mmm, interesting - I'm no IT fundi either. I'll ask the experts and revert.

    AVSA Website Update

Yes, we've completely redesigned the site, with a lot of content, and weekly updates, including reviews and news. There's an archive with about 18 months' worth of content from AVSA magazine in PDF format (all the reviews published over that period) which will be extended as we go along, too...

    Vivid Audio

If the step up from the conventional B1 to the B1 Decade is anything to go by, these upgraded Vivid 1.5s should be special. From the 'limited edition' tags I assume this isn't a replacement, though, but an added, limited-numbers special? Wonder if it also features the same updated construction...

AVSA review on a "local content" reference system?

For about as long as I've been involved with AVSA (which is longer than I dare remember, lest it give away my age!), the magazine has championed the cause of local producers. Some have made it easy for us, by making review equipment available. Others remain elusive - a certain phono cartridge...

    AVSA Dec 09/ Jan 2010

Great to see that our reviews get scrutinised so closely - and apologies for the slip-up on the woofer size ... The Jamo's really are special, but were perhaps a little constrained in the AVSA listening room: would love to hear them in a bigger space with more air. :)

    AVSA 'Behind the scenes'

Yup - and keeps the winter at bay pretty well, too ... Those Scandinavians know something about heating, considering their temperatures in winter!

    AVSA 'Behind the scenes'

Some details on rooms I use for the reviews published in AVSA. My home listening room is relatively compact, and narrow, but dedicated to audio. It's about 6m long and 4 m wide, and has slightly irregular shape to combat standing waves. I basically run two systems, one 'small' and one 'large'...

    AVSA History

Sorry - got into this discussion a little late: hectic end of the year, and not always enough time to browse the forum. The magazine was originally started by Loek Wiermans, but when he left for the Netherlands, it was taken over by Lourie Coetzee (proprietor of Electrosonic, these days) and...

    Reader's Query - comment please?

Hi I've just returned a pair of Majik 140s after an extensive review period, including both passive and active configurations, mainly using Linn ancillaries in the AVSA listening room. And not too long before that, I ran the Mark and Daniel Ruby Maximus speakers for an even more extended...

    The influence of reviews

It's called having a face for radio - or audio, I suppose. And who cares what we (or the kit, for that matter) looks like: just has to sound really good! Deon

    The influence of reviews

I'm flattered that there are members of this forum young enough to consider me having been in audio longer than they've been on this earth ... ;) Seriously, though: as I wrote elsewhere on this forum, a reviewer's opinions should always be considered as a guide, rather than gospel. It's the...

    Question on reviewing / suggestion

The AVSA room is quite well damped (it has to be in part to prevent from the other occupants in the building to tear out their hair!) but my home listening room is pretty much normal, and the AV system is in a very real-world lounge, with lots of glass, open spaces, tiles etc. You're right...

    Upgrade advice?

Hi Kay A little late into this debate, but I agree with the general consensus: improve the source, either with Jamster's DAC, or a better CD player. In your room, smaller speakers will also work better, and on decent stands, they will be less likely to interface negatively with their...

    Question on reviewing / suggestion

Hello there Apologies for getting in on this question so late, despite Andrew's pleas ... Reviewing is trickier than most people realise. Whether we like it or not, the reviewing process is largely subjective. And that would be the case even if we spent hours measuring components on a test...
