    Electrostatic surges in AV equipment

A friend of mine has a Harmon Kardon av receiver. The output from it was very soft from the start. At max volume his 91 db effecient speakers did not even get to half normal listening volumes. He had it looked at by the agents and they diagnosed that some boards had to be replaced at a cost of...

    Visit to 13 hof

Hopefully next time I'm there, there are some Tannoys available. I would love to hear them. But the Dynaudios, Avant gardes and Unisons you had there all moved me in different ways and all of them were outstanding.

    Visit to 13 hof

Just want to thank Achim for his hospitality last night. My wife and I were transported to a 1950s club, listened to a piano recital and participated in some interesting drumming music. The audio equipment was impressive but what really shined was the music and the company. First time my wife...

    Mechanical hum from amp

My kidNAP does the same but only at my house which made me think that it must be mains related. I built a DC blocker which reduced the hum substantially but it is not totally gone. Maybe a better DC blocker will take it all away.

Memorable Systems - Systems that Rocked You

On Saturday I went to Schalk and we listened to some music on his system. An Exclame and Black Widow were connected to Sonor Cappella speakers. Not enough time has passed to get nostalgic about it but I was shocked at how good it sounded. First time I heard Sonor's and they are now high on my...

Hands up if you own a Valve Audio product

Got hold of a second hand Exclame 100. The amplifier is really something special. The only thing that tops it is Schalk himself, who has gone out of his way to make sure that everything is perfect. I have never met anyone so dedicated to his products and customers. I can see why he is...

    New Products for 2016 ?

Being the new owner of an older Exclame I would be very interested in getting a phonostage fitted to it. It really is very good amplifier and the phono would be the cherry on top.

    Valve pre amp project

@Ampdog, I had the feeling that it could not be that simple. My sources would be a TT through a solid state phono stage and a DAC. If you know about any simple designs that meet the important requirements and that would sound good I would be grateful. It well help me get a grip on some of the...

    Valve pre amp project

I want to try and build a simple valve pre-amplifier. I have never done anything with valves before so I thought it might be an interesting project. I need some advise on what to build though. Had a look on the internet and read through some basic valve theory. This DIY project caught my eye...

The SUPER Bookshelf shootout - 10th October

For a start I just want to thank Francois and everyone else that did prep work. Also to the members that brought their speakers. It was an amazing day and a singular experience to listen to all those speakers together. Something you would never be able to do at a dealer. As far as speakers go I...

    Magnum soldering equipment

The date on my Weller is 1978, still going strong. What amazes me is that should it be necessary you can still get the parts for it.
