    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

I built mine according to this article. http://sound.whsites.net/articles/xfmr-dc.htm As I understand it the caps does not have to be rated for the full voltage but have to be able to handle the current.

Maybe not worth it if the will increase the size that much.

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

+1 on this. I have this problem and it is very annoying on amplifiers with big toroidals.. Built an external one but would be brilliant if built in from the start.

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

Ian, this is something I needed in other projects as well. The ones I ended up using weren't nearly as good as this. Can you also use the board without connecting temp sensors?

GECO AUDIO Vangaurd - Integrated power amplifier

That looks very professional Rudi this is coming together nicely. I like the pattern on the sides. Have some ballpark estimates been made on cost yet?

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

That sounds good. The trauma after an amplifier bursts into flames because of something like that causes permanent psychological damage  :)

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

Looks like a thoroughly thought through solution. Maybe a stupid question but would this arrangement also protect the amp if a short occurs externally on the speaker terminals or wires?

GECO AUDIO Vangaurd - Integrated power amplifier

Don't know if I'm alone in this but I'm getting very excited about this build and the one from Ian. It would be nice to organise a build get together before hand and listen to the amps. We can then also discuss things to look out for and explore chassis and finishing options. Also gives the...

    Signing out.

Being ignored does sting and is rude and cowardly behaviour. I am sure it must have been the PM system since I don't think there are many on this forum that does that sort of thing. The posts I read from you were always interesting and made the forum richer.

    Electrostatic surges in AV equipment

Jaco that remains to be seen. The unit is still with them being fixed. Will report back when he gets it from them.

    Electrostatic surges in AV equipment

Yes, Obviously a flawed solution to the problem from the agents since HDMI cannot be replaced by optical. My question still remains though if static generated from plugging and unplugging a cold HDMI cable could damage the receiver?

    Electrostatic surges in AV equipment

That seems like a probable explanation. Coming back to the hot plugging issue. The friend with the AVR is very cautious with his equipment. He switches all equipment of at the wall plug before he plugs or unplugs anything. Even RCA cables are only unplugged after switching off everything. It...

    Electrostatic surges in AV equipment

That is the part that I cannot understand as well. The hdmi ports are in perfect working order. The output stages seems to be affected and it does this for all inputs even analogue.
