A friend of mine has a Harmon Kardon av receiver. The output from it was very soft from the start. At max volume his 91 db effecient speakers did not even get to half normal listening volumes.
He had it looked at by the agents and they diagnosed that some boards had to be replaced at a cost of R5500. They said that the cause of the failure was electrostatic surges from plugging and unplugging hdmi cables.
I have never come accross this before and thought a device like this should be protected from a basic operating scenario like this. They told him the only way to not have ot happen again is to switch to optical cables.
Have anybody else seen this before with avrs?
