Daniel, www.zastore.co.za has an iPod dock for R388 I think: http://www.zastore.co.za/index.php?lm=IGstore&cf=ProdList&p[prod_id]=3263&d=1&p[cat_id]=CAD A LOD cable does the same thing as a dock - takes your audio signal from the dock connector at the bottom instead of from the headphone jack...

    iPod LOD

I'm out to go and buy a little iPod dock for R400 to get around my iPod's amp, which seems to be introducing noise into my music. Before I do this, can anyone recommend something I should rather buy? I like the dock because I can still use my existing cable, but I'm open to other options like...

What speakers would you buy for R5000

I've got B&W DM602.5s already... I was just interested to know - it doesn't really seem necessary to have another speaker so similar to other's already in their lineup...

What speakers would you buy for R5000

Sorry to sidetrack a bit, but can someone explain the difference between the B&W 600 series and th CM series? Not from a sound point of view but a lineup point of view - which one is higher up the B&W catalogue? The CM speakers look more upmarket...

    Paypal

I want to buy some iPod connectors from http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connector.htm but they only deal with PayPal. Would anyone with a PayPal account be willing to do an order for me and I'll pay you for it via bank transfer? I just don't want to open up an account just to buy R30 worth...

Jitter, SPDif and other fun stuff

Why doesn't this happen between, say, your hard drive and your s/pdif out jack?

Jitter, SPDif and other fun stuff

Very well. :-) Well anyway, even if there are any arguments that cables make a difference I think that difference would anyway be nulled and voided by the miles of standard copper that form our electricity grid, along with the few metres of copper inside your computer/amp whatever and even...

Jitter, SPDif and other fun stuff

Thanks for the info. Well info head-fi.org, where there are also lots of 'believers' and non-believers, someone explained quite well why that whole timing thing i unlikely to make any difference. Unless your cable is a hundred metres long. But I'm a sceptic to the core and really put most of it...

    iPod LOD

Well what I'm basically doing is I'm putting in an effort to get ALAC copies of the music I really like, 320kbps for the next rung down and the others at least to 192 but once I'm done with the more important music I'm going to get to work on getting the other ones up to 320. Well I'll see if...

Most of my music is 128kbps - 192kbps with a growing portion of 320kbps music, but I'm trying to get more in Apple Lossless now. Wouldn't I need the cable to be shielded, being line level?

    iPod LOD

Hehe, ya I subscribe completely to the fact that wire is wire; some of the things people suggest go against all logic. I saw a discussion at head-fi.org in which people were comparing the audio 'signatures' of different fuses! Ya so I suppose I will just head down to the local hardware, unless...

Sorry but it doesn't seem I can edit my posts. Does RS also sell short lengths of two-core cable? I don't know where to look. Also, a suggestion on a corresponding heatshrink size would be appreciated... :P

Oh and sorry for so many posts but does anyone know if techflex like that shown in this tutorial: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/how-make-interconnect-step-step-pics-50729/ would be available locally anywhere? It makes the cables quite nice and solid.

I was looking at the tutorial here (for standard 3.5mm - 2x RCA cables):http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/how-make-interconnect-step-step-pics-50729/ What I was thinking was to have one cable with four cores - one for left one for right and two attached to ground. OK I see my suggestion of...

I'm just going to use one that came with my iPod but you can buy here: http://www.qables.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=76_81            (seems to be down at the moment) http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=633 http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connector.htm

Ok ya, I see the heat shrink on their website. I don't have very easy access to nicely stocked hardware hardware stores so will probably go online. Try to get RCA connectors, cable and heatshrink all from RS. Do you think my idea of splitting it near the amp end should work out? I suppose one of...

    iPod LOD

Oh ok. I was thinking of having one cable that splits into two just before the amp, which would be tidier but I suppose means that I'd have to shrink wrap the splitting part? Ideally I'd like to do it that way but I realise that it makes it more difficult. Or if just bought a 3.5mm - 2x RCA...

    iPod LOD

I want to make an iPod LOD cable. I've seen lots of tutorials for very short iPod-3.5mm jack cables but I'd like to make a longer (~1m) cable with 2x RCA. Firstly, will that be a bit difficult splitting the cable into two? I don't mind just making one that terminates in a 3.5mm jack and then...
