    Honda Civic... anyone own/ed one?

I'd take a 10 year old Honda over a new one anyday. I was very disappointed with the build quality of the BRV when we had one for a few days for an Ad. A lot of cars ( including Honda ) are assembled in 3rd world countries now to save costs, and it shows. Carpets are basically furry cardboard...

    Model C schools please

You are basically forced to send your kids to a private school these days in certain areas. I have been living just north of Fourways for the past 20 years. When I moved in, the only so called model C high school that I can recall in the area was Fourways high. So after 20 years, we have...

    TOYOTA ENGINE PROBLEMS OUTSIDE WARRANTY

I believe it has a Subaru 2L boxer motor. I wonder how familiar Toyota dealers are with that motor. I think it would be worthwhile speaking to a Suaru specialist as well.

    Jeep 3.2

Just Keep the Kuga if you can. Constantly paying off a depreciating asset sucks, but if you're leasing, then I suppose you have no choice but to change cars every few years. Basically renting and never own.

Why do you hoard audio equipment?

My 15 year olds kart. Most expensive car we have !  ;D

Why do you hoard audio equipment?

it's not about hoarding, but having enough space. Everything gets dumped in my garage by the :angrywife:, and the cars live outside. :'(

    Are you going on holiday?

Klein Brak river every year to visit the outlaws. We used to do it in one go, but the past 5 years or so, we have booked a guest house to split the drive. The roads are getting more and more congested each year, and there seems to be more trucks than ever before overtaking each other on uphills...

    studio recording equipment

As above. You could go for a simple 2 channel in/out such as a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and plenty of other brands that do the same thing, or one which has multiple inputs. There are even more elaborate ones which have multiple inputs, outputs and mixing controls like motorised faders etc. Just...

    Kiss coming to South Africa

I was a huge KISS fan as a kid up until "Unmasked", when the original lineup changed. I lost interest after that with all the 80's glam rock bands popping up. I still have all their LP's though. I still think the show is a must, and I'm going to get my ticket. Hopefully, they don't pull a Judas...

    Hifi driver in car woofer?

Don't waste your money on hifi woofers for a car. They are just woofers, not subs and will not handle the power and abuse a car sub will. I tried it years ago with a pair of KEF woofers. They distorted before they even overcame road noise. They are designed for quite environments and just don't...

Any tips for cleaning packing tape glue off TT plastic?

DOOM. Normal green can, not odourless one. Great for paper based labels. Could work on that stuff too. Worth a try.

Our own Youtubers- The Audio Couple

I agree with all of the criticism mentioned here. It's just plain :cr@p: Hifi is not really an exciting topic to make videos of anyway. I'd rather watch paint dry than see a video of a DAC, and hear an explanation on how it " sounds ". Have they done a DAC vid ? However, YouTube has saved me...

Any competent mechanics on the forum ?

This took a bit longer than anticipated, but after half a dozen Youtube vids, homemade measuring devices, and doubting myself, I finally got it together. The biggest problem was that the primary chain marker had not been lined up with the crank pulley and therefore none of the chain markers...

    Driver's licence renewal - for Gauteng'ers

As above. Do all my stuff there. Licence renewal in Feb was quick and collection 5 minutes. I took my son there 3 weeks ago to do his learners. ...he passed ! ;D

How prepared are you for a disaster?

I have an 8 Kva genny and a high pressure pump that sucks pool water and feeds my mains. The genny can run the pump if we lose both. Life can go on with slightly chlorinated hot showers . Common occurence in Fourways anyway ! ;D

VW and emission lies - shocking!

Car makers have conned us for decades, and still do. My 80's Porsche 928S had an air pump that went straight into the exhaust halfway down which diluted the exhaust gases to give a false reading. This was standard ! My current Subaru Forester also has an air pump to dilute the gases on a cold...

How can I get that old school amplifer LOUDNESS effect with a parametric EQ?

Always loved a LOUDNESS button ( Boksburg EQ smile ). It really makes a huge difference at lower volumes. I believe ( or could be wrong ? ) that the loudness circuit switches off, or flattens out as the volume is increased on most amps. The Yamaha variable one is a gem. Still miss it on my old...

I need a new pair of car speakers - advice sought.

You will have to make adapters regardless of what speaker you are fitting. I made mine out of 3 layers of 9mm supawood. The 1st layer is shaped to the OEM speakers frame so that you can use the original mounting holes ( 3 ) for your new speakers. the 2nd and 3rd layers are shaped to fit the new...
