    Paisley speakers.

I picked up a pair of these last week from a colleague who is emigrating. They were made by Canadian Ian Paisley. These were brought into SA by his father from Canada in the 80's, and he has had them since new. i hooked them up on the test bench and there was very little bottom end for a cab...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

To answer the above questions, I could have cut neater woofer holes with a router, but there was no going back after I had used a jigsaw. Beginners mistake. Because the woofer surrounds aren't round, I got away with it. My router is as old as the hills, and I'm a total novice with them, so I...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

9mm scrap MDF was used for the templates. The tweeter was cut with a hole saw and the woofer was more tricky and took 3 attempts to get it right.

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

Getting the baffle perfect was the biggest challenge. Any mistake here, and it would have ended in tears. Using my 1:1 template, I cut out the main holes with a jigsaw and used a holesaw for the ports. Every route was tested on scrap wood first and adjusted until it was spot on. This pic is the...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

Next I built a router fence from spare cliplock flooring I had lying around, and, yes those are modified cassette cases which I marked to find the centre line.  ;D

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

I must add that I only have hand tools, a drill press, bench grinder and a 30 year old B&D Workmate, so it would be slow going and I would have to buy router bits, forstner bits, clamps etc as I needed them. I purchased a biscuit joiner to help keep everything aligned while the panels were glued...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

Next it was off to Timbercity to get the wood cut. I've only had impeccable service from the Strydom park branch, so I trusted them to be mm accurate as I specified. The cabs are 22mm MDF and bracing 12mm ply. I collected the next day and did a mock up, and as promised, the cuts were absolutely...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

Finally !...the story continues. The first step was to remove everything from the pair of AE1's and the single AE2. The AE1's arrived with grilles, so there were spare badges, and the option to make grilles for the 2's at a later stage. It was pretty straight forward to get the drivers and...

Could something influence audio tempo perception?

Thanks. Maths wasn't my strong point. :)

Could something influence audio tempo perception?

in the early stages of DAW's ( Digital Audio workstations ) for post production sound mixing, the standard for digital audio for Television was 48k. If you ripped a CD into a session, it was stretched to fit, which made a track about 0,9 % slower and pitch was down by the same amount. The only...

    Acoustic Energy AE2 build.

There have always been only 2 speakers which I have wanted to own in my lifetime. The first was a pair of Meridian M2's which I saw and listened to at a hifi show when I was a young lad, and the second was the AE2's. I had never heard them, but when I first saw them in a hifi mag with their...

Most reliable service provider for fibre to the home?

MTN did our fibre in our estate a few years back and therefore had sole rights to be the supplier. Basically nobody bought in ( over 600 houses ) at their prices, so they were forced to be competitive. Eventually I signed up with Supersonic which is owned by them, and have had great service . I...
