    cheap Devialet?

And still listening although a day full of unpacking NuPrime and Rega shipments is starting to take its toll. Time to take my buggered back off to bed. Maybe one more track.

    cheap Devialet?

Drivers loaded and what was supposed to have been a quick check that everything works, has developed into a full blown listening session. It is that good.

    cheap Devialet?

Aaaaand they're here. My first impression is that the amp is a hefty little beast that's well built and looks great. The only issue I've picked up is that despite the manual stating that all amps are shipped set to 230 volts, the one I opened was set to 115V. Years as a journalist made me...

    BluRay/CD advice needed

If youre using the Blu-ray as a music source then your best bets are probably Oppo or Cambridge audio. The Cambridge is a modified oppo (cambridge recon their analogue out is better) However A friend of mine bought a Cambridge Blu ray player and ended up buying a dedicated Cambridge CD player...

    The importance of bit-depth.

You can polish a turd as much as you like, but will always be a turd. If the person at the beginning of the chain messes up, no amount of added bits or higher sampling rates can fix this. I will take a well recorded CD over a poorly recorded 24/192 version any day.

looking for a cheap, small, reliable amplifier

Must be a complete drop in solution. DIY is not an option as they will ultimately need volumes and they want something with local back up.

    Taking audiophilia mainstream

Around a year and a half a go i judged at a car audio finals. One of the cars I listened to had lots of good gear in it but didn't sound great. After the show this competitor and I were chatting and he said that it was difficult to get advice from people on how to improve his vehicle. My...

The importance -or not- of room acoustics.

What makes a good room? One of the best sounding rooms I've had the pleasure of listening to music in is the AVSA studio. The acoustician who designed the room (yes it was designed by and acoustician) was essentially told "here is the space we have, design a room that will fit in it". There...

The importance -or not- of room acoustics.

Thanks for reading he whole thing Attie I've upset enough people, by accusing them of lacking comprehension skills. or so it seems so I'll bow out. But before I do I'll state that i thought i made it perfectly clear that I do believe that some treatment is important, and that a little bit of...

The importance -or not- of room acoustics.

here goes digging my hole a little deeper. I truly believe that many people didnt read my entire post, but just skimmed through it. Those that read it in its entirety would have come across this  My view is that some treatment is certainly a good think. (it should have read thing) And this ...

The importance -or not- of room acoustics.

When ever I say something like research has shown that........ I get asked what research and by whom. I quote the one by Toole as this happened to be the one closest to hand. Over the past few decades I've read several white papers, spoken to engineers, loudspeaker designers, and spent a large...

The importance -or not- of room acoustics.

A contentious issue, and one that last time I got involved, someone called the headmaster to set me straight. (and he eventually agreed with me) SO how important is your room in the listening equation? There are certainly two opposite poles of thought in this forum, with some saying room...
