@Deezil, one word that describes your experience is EISH! But I wish you all the best! I do have a MyUS subscription that I can help you with, so PM me if you need some help there. Its not worth it for 1 transaction to get a subscription usually, but when you do a few a quarter then totally worth.

Laptop on board sound in which I can normally hear a hiss when no music is playing.

I think the highest res stuff I have is the Inception soundtrack 24 bit 96 kHz as well as the normal FLAC (44.1 kHz 16bit) And there I am struggling to hear a difference :D

But I get this in foobar2000 with asio set up like instructed: Unrecoverable playback error: Could not initialize the driver So its confusing as to what is wrong. I got the asio driver from foobar's website. Unless I should use the CD one? Otherwise, there's little things I am hearing here...
