    SA artists worth mentioning

I've listened to Roan van As for a while (long before his recent fame), and for a while I did think it's the same guy, but on Google Play they're two different artists so I didn't think much about it.  His album The Traveler is also a bit of a different feel, and I like it quite a lot.

    R5 Mandela Coins

Unless they've been proofed, they're worth face value, as simple as that.  I had a guy the other day trying to sell a bunch for R1k each, saying they're worth thousands online.  He lied. Interestingly, unless it's been proofed, coins are all just worth face value, even if they're old.  I have a...

Any ideas for a "side hustle"? I'm bored.

I think if your cables are making so much sound that you can discern their quality from the noise, you've got a problem.

    Joke for the day

If you put Budweiser on tap there you will never run out.  Just let the urinals run back into the kegs.

Haha distilling is a different game.  I'm not there (yet).  But there as well, just know what you're doing and nobody will go blind.

Any ideas for a "side hustle"? I'm bored.

Oh, au contraire.  Homebrews are often of better quality and contains a lot less additives and funky stuff than commercial brews.  Well, it is after a batch or two...

Any ideas for a "side hustle"? I'm bored.

Do small things that go quick, like cooking courses, advanced driving courses, etc. etc.  Find something you like and delve deeper.  Making beer/wine/cider is also a very rewarding hobby that contains a lot more than you'd think, and is a lot cheaper to do than you'd probably imagine.

    Joke for the day

If you're looking for something, it's always in the last place you look for it.  Because once you find it, you stop looking.  If you keep looking, that's just stupid.

    Driver's licence renewal - for Gauteng'ers

Check for open slots on Monday mornings (or other mornings if you're feeling lucky) from 07:30 onwards.  That's when new spots are loaded.  Some days may have, but generally Monday mornings at 07:30 the slots start opening up at some places.

Stove questions - Kitchen renovation project on the way

I'm not too bothered by the oven, but stove is gas for me.  Definitely.  You can legally wire up a freestanding gas stove to a 9kg cylinder and store it indoors, in a cupboard or cabinet just away from the stove.  There are regulations, but it's possible, and it saves a ton in installation...

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

Yeah I can't really change much on the amp.  It's an older one, but it has no difference between large and small speakers from what I can see.  It does 40WPC if I remember correctly here, and I'm very happy with it.  I've considered changing the cabinets but it was a first-time build which I'm...

Items sold as 'local collection only' by some forum members.

I'll courier virtually anything, even a R20 item if the buyer wants.  I ain't paying for the packaging materials and so on though, and I communicate that with buyers.  I've before had a guy ask me to ship something so I hopped into a Postnet, got prices on a box and packaging materials and...

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

I have them relatively close to the wall.  I don't really have the space to move them forward too much.  Regarding their feet - they're just flat on the cabinet.  The little Yamaha receiver is the receiver, power source, amplifier, all in one.  It's amazing considering the conditions I got it at...

How not to sell your gear - A true story of arrogance.

Now let me ask you - what would your answer have been, or even just your reaction, had he answered the phone with "Good morning!  It's xxx from yyy, and I'm the new distro for Brand Z!  We've heard a lot about your business and I think we'd make a great addition to your store.  Would you be...

Bentley Acoustics and my experience with them..

Yeah I have to be honest - without Vaughn, my DIY bookshelves also never would have happened.  He walked me through a very large part of the process personally, invited me to his place and showed me how he does things, etc. etc.  It's good to know there are still good people in this world.

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

Yeah that's what I was afraid of.  Guess I'll have to think about a floorstanding 3-way then sometime.  Maybe something with a nice 10" subwoofer in the base.  I did design something like that before, but I couldn't find drivers in my budget, so it was cut short. Anway, to end off this thread...

My first ever DIY bookshelf speakers

OK, ladies and gents, I actually finished these and they are in daily use.  I am very happy with how they sound, given I have an active subwoofer in the system as well.  However, I am a bit disappointed regarding the low-end of these speakers.  Their highs are crisp and not too sharp, and the...
