    Solder Iron

I find solder wick to be indispensable. For larger joints, a solder sucker does the heavy lifting. You can get gel-type flux that the repairers on YouTube use; this type seems to remain clear, even with a soldering iron plunged into it. Looks like it's nice to work with, but I have not...

Albums recorded with Stereo Mic Pairs, ie naturally Stereo recorded

I don't know if there is a (formal) standard dummy head for making binaural recordings, but at least it approximates how we hear sound by attempting to incorporate head related hearing effects. In this respect, it may be the recording method that offers the least variance across recordings. As...

Is there a possibility that our strive towards accuracy is actually counterproductive to musical engagement/enjoyment?

You will find that - especially the older folk here (I suppose I'm in that group!)- have had this ideal brainwashed and embossed into their minds. For a lot of us, most of what is understood to be "proper" hi-fi was experienced vicariously through the writings of the fi-hi press. So the goal...

    Enveloping Soundstage

A lot of what you are able to achieve in terms of 3-dimensional image is dictated by the loudspeaker's radiation pattern and its complement, room acoustics. Frequently overlooked, symmetry of the acoustical space does affect soundstage and image stability across the frequency spectrum. If the...

A good entry level setup to test audio equipment?

For a portable setup I recommend a bluetooth amplifier with some pre-made leads. See my project here (unfortunately many pics disappeared with the upgrade of the forum): https://www.avforums.co.za/threads/bluetooth-speaker-tester.72845/

How to sell an item to an overseas buyer & advice about crates

You can get crates custom made on a pallet. The packaging company should be able to cover the export requirements. Example: Clip-Lok Boxes | Clip Lok

    Some news for 2023.

Love the project! Do you think you could perhaps show some pics or vids of the manufacturing process? Even screen shots of your CAD work would be great.

    Understanding Luxpower App

Can anyone advise if I understand this correctly: When Eskom power was down, power flow was shown as PV to Battery and Backup Power. Consumption was about 140W (only part of house is currently connected). Now that Eskom power is up, power flow is shown as PV to battery and (house symbol)...

    Adding a surge protector

I like the tip about installing a smaller earth leakage unit to free up space. As it is, that position 20 looks available, but actually there is a bus bar in its position, so really it is chock-a-block full.

    Adding a surge protector

She was advised by some representative of the insurance company to fit a surge suppressor or her further claims would be declined. She has already bought the device and it looks like a circuit breaker, except with two green indicators (LEDs?). Here are pics of her DB:

    Adding a surge protector

Not exactly a pure "Alternative Power" issue, but I reckon the folks who know are to be found here. My cousin wants me to connect a surge protector onto her DB. Apparently it's an insurance requirement. I had a look, and now have a doubt. The DB is full to capacity, so anything additional will...
