Solar system rental: a viable option?

Its always cheaper to buy than to rent. Gosolr medium is R1580 p/m, exact same system offered including installation, for R100 000. The parts can purchased for ~R80 000. Better to work out how much that would cost you in interest if added to your home loan first.

Security alarm battery causing activation during loadshedding - please help!

I had the same issue with a 12V LiFePO replacement on my gate motor. Problem was the battery contacts not making good contact. A lot of these LiFePO replacement batteries have different sized tabs from ‘normal’ batteries, jam them on real tight or use pliers to ensure tight contact

    Popping sound from the speakers

Aha! Take a gander in your amp and see how feasible/easy it would be to run some wires from the on/off switch and if you think you can do it, I have a tiny PCB I can send you to add the relay and connect the wires

    Popping sound from the speakers

The 12V triggers usually just power a relay that parallels the on/off switch - if your 12V is just cutting the mains then yes not a good thing to do.

    Popping sound from the speakers

Do you get a pop if the power amp inputs are disconnected?

    Plankie amp hum

The thing is it is not the amp itself buzzing - it is only when you connect another device to it that it begins buzzing, so I am guessing it is some sort of earth issue BUT the amp is made of wood and has no earth! Try using a 3 wire mains cable and connect earth to an RCA input.

    Plankie amp hum

Can you post a pic of the amp from above and how is the system connected up?

    Plankie amp hum

Does it hum without the DAC connected?

    Plankie amp hum

The sub amp should be grounded by the XLR cold to ground connection on the crossover. Does the amp hum with only one channel (RCA) connected?

    Plankie amp hum

Switch on and off thumps aren’t necessarily faults - always power up a system starting a source and power down the opposite way. So switch on (say) CD player, then DAC, then preamp, then crossover, then power amp, then sub woofers. To switch off reverse the order.

    RCA to XLR

Use twin core shielded cable: RCA positive to XLR pin 2 RCA negative to XLR pin 3 shield to XLR pin 1 - don’t connect the shield to the RCA. Don’t use this cable the other way round: XLR out to RCA input.

    Rega Aria MC settings help

Well thats aligned the physics: higher resistance for an MM will create a treble extension and that is what you are hearing. MCs don’t have frequency altering components in the audible range - they exhibit pure resistance within those frequencies - so user preference prevails. If you are using a...

    Rega Aria MC settings help

68k is a higher resistance than 47k :) For MM cartridges increasing the load resistance will increase the treble - very few preamps offer this feature as 47k is a standard for MM cartridges. MM cartridges have quite a bit of inductance and this forms a filter with the input resistance that rolls...

    Rega Aria MC settings help

You’re using an MC so you needn’t worry about capacitance settings (switches 3&4). Resistance settings (switches 1&2) will change the ‘tone’ - adjust to your liking - higher resistance may sound brighter or more dynamic. Gain settings just control loudness start at low setting and if you are...

    Graphic Equalizer Advice

The device you reference is a speaker not line level device so would easily integrate into your system, but it is not an equaliser. It shouldn’t mess with your sound as the device just ‘measures’ the output. If you like the looks go for it - but it will not be accurate
