    Audio Capacitors

Get polypropylene capacitors from RS etc. If “audio” caps aren’t paper-in-oil then they are polypropylene or teflon. Paper and oils might look attractive but they all end off leaking — I have used AudioNotes, Jupiters, Jensens and Angelas and they all misbehaved eventually.

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

My mistake I misread the insurance quote its not that much more. The panels are considered part of the building so fixtures so that is building cover whilst inverter and batteries are items so household cover

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

@kolakidd how much is your insurance charging you to cover the Gosolr install? I have the 5kW system and my insurer wants an extra R1000 p/m to cover it - is this over the top?

    JHB Cable Listening Experiment

The output impedance of an amplifier will short any RF to ground. Even if it didn't, no loudspeaker could react to 3uV there just isn't enough power to move any cone. The idea of RF getting into unshielded speaker cables has been around for years but has never been observed. Signals getting into...

My Sunsynk 8kw, BSL Battery, JA Mono PV Panel Setup

Yip, my 3.6kW of panels were kicking out 4.3kW. Must be the extra reflections from the clouds that amplify or increase the amount of light

Please help - valve pre-amp fading on one channel

Get or trace the schematic of the device - it looks pretty simple. Measure all the voltages on left and right channels and write them down on the schematic. Compare the channels and it will be very obvious where your fault lies.

Small vacuum tube integrated for desktop use

Its not the secondary resistance, its the fact that at switch on the heaters are cold and therefore the device draws zero current so your secondary voltage will charge the capacitors to peak secondary ACV (x1.4 since mains is a sine wave) or higher - without any current the draw secondary...

Small vacuum tube integrated for desktop use

Bad news: 430V is way too high for 450V rated capacitors. Firstly the mains fluctuates and secondly at start up before the valves are warm, voltages will be way, way higher - more than 500V for sure. You will want to series-connect some 450V caps (you don't really get electrolytic caps rated...

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

Its a rental system so you wont have a choice as to the equipment. The butteries they gave me are Dyness installer tells me Hubble could not meet the size of their orders. It neither here nor there though, since you just renting if something does not work/break they replace.

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

You can buy Gosolrs medium system yourself for R95 000 see Essentials Package or less....the (Gosolr) installer told me he had bought the exact same system for R75 000 - that would have been wholesale pricing i assume. After 3 years of contract you can purchase the system from Gosolr for...

    Question about step-down transformers.

You could get a 230V to 100V transformer wound just make sure it is at least 20W - Peter Souris in JHB will do it.

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

So basically the system has replaced more than 80% of your Eskom - nice.

    GoSolr 8kW (Large option) install

Am getting my Gosolr installed this week - 5kW system and one battery. According to City Power consumption is on average ~500kW a month and according to Gosolr the 5kW system should cover 80% to more than 100% depending on season. What was your total power usage from City Power? And what is it...

Hiss on left channel...except during load shedding.

Have you tried disconnecting your subwoofer from the offending amplifier?

    Matching pre-amp to power amp

A 1st order filter is 6dB per octave and 20dB per decade - @Veloce probably meant that. All amps using feedback will have filters built in to stop them from oscillating.

Best DMM probes for valve radios and amps

be careful at valve voltages though - better to stick with properly CAT rated stuff
