In my opinion, the best subwoofer for the purpose would be sealed, as a port has a lagging response, and depending on where the port is in relation to the active driver, complicates the effort under discussion.

Yeah, the mid 90’s Lynnfield VR30. The last series produced in the USA. I agree, not terrible speakers.
